I recently had the pleasure of dining at Steinbock in Basel, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional, and the fondue was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and inviting, with a cozy and rustic ambiance that felt like stepping into a traditional Swiss chalet. The staff were friendly and attentive, providing excellent service throughout the evening.

As for the fondue, it was simply divine. The cheese was perfectly melted and had a wonderful depth of flavor, and the dipping options were plentiful, including fresh bread, vegetables, and potatoes. It was clear that great care and attention had been put into the preparation of the fondue, and it made for a truly memorable and delicious meal.

In addition to the fondue, the other dishes we tried were equally delicious, including the schnitzel and the homemade chocolate cake for dessert. Overall, I would highly recommend Steinbock to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience in Basel. The fondue alone is worth the visit, and the rest of the menu is sure to impress as well.

Nice place to have fondue! Very close to the Basel SBB station and open during lunch time also. We were 2 of us visiting. Normally, the fondue can be ordered for a minimum of 2 people, but the owner was kind enough to let us order for 1 person and order another dish. This way, we could share both the dishes. The traditional fondue had garlic pieces in it, so was a surprise! However, no potatoes were served, only bread. They also served complimentary freshly baked bread - this was warm and delicious! The other dish we ordered was a Rosti Andalouse - crispy and tasty! Free drinking water :) Prices are reasonable by Swiss standards.

Fondue! Perfect cheese fondue for New Year Dinner (01.01.2023). We ordered tomato soup, which was very tasty. Also had beef liver with onions, herbed butter and butterrosti...delicious! Very traditional Swiss Restaurant. Best to call for a reservation as the place gets full easily. Very near the Basel Central Train Station. Recommended.

When you enter the restaurant, you can really tell that it’s family owned. Very friendly and willing to explain the menu even with limited English. The restaurant is conveniently located near the railroad station and for me it was a short walk from the hotel. I was there in the early evening, and there was a good ambiance with more people coming in later But still was comfortable and not noisy. As for my meal, I chose a salad which was good, but not what I expected ,as it had cream based dressing but it was good. For the main meal I had pork slices sautéed in a mushroom cream sauce with pasta. It was very good and very filling. Definitely a place to return during my stay and I highly recommend it.

We tried two different fondues here! The beef fondue and the cheese fondue, both were beautiful ???????? being a cheese lover myself, the ultimate treat! Highly recommend!

Best service provided by the young man & his beautiful family. The family own restaurant, makes you feel at home with so much love and patience in ordering. Fast service, delicious food and good coffee. By far the best hospitality services in Switzerland. I will recommend others to try their menu, especially if you are near Basel SBB.

Staff were really nice.
The food was a big let down. I had the chicken slices with paprika and cream sauce. The chicken was the most unusual texture (squeaky and hard). Tasted cooked, cooled and then re-heated (possibly in a microwave). I have eaten street food in south East Asia and wasn't as worried as I was in this restaurant about food safety. I really wanted to like it. It's a beautiful old pub.
Recommend for a drink, but not for food.

Authentic, if a little run-down, restaurant close to the main train station. Tasty dishes and a daily lunch menu, though still not a great deal money-wise. Also massively burnt coffee.

Good thing is you won’t leave hungry - good sized meals, fresh ingredients and quick enough service, if a bit rough at times. Make reservations for lunch, as the proximity to train station and offices around attracts crowds.
