This place is a special gem in the region! Gorgeous hotel with stunning views of the waterfall and Lake Brienz. We had an absolutely incredible stay. The food for breakfast and dinner is delicious and the staff are wonderful and accommodating. Our stay here was a highlight of our trip.

This hotel is in a really great location on lake Brienz and right next to Giessbach falls. The views are really great and the overall feel of the place is special.

However, I feel like the hotel tries to get away with certain things due to the 'Grand' name & history of the place. The rooms definitely need some sort of refurbishment. There were marks/stains on the carpet which gives the impression it wasn't clean, marks on the wall paper as well as uncomfortable beds. I understand that the furniture is old and the hotel are keeping with the historic theme but they can still maintain this with a refurbishment. The bathrooms seem to have been refurbished and this was very nice.

I didn't get a great vibe from the receptionist that checked us in, like we shouldn't be there as we were wearing walking gear rather than suits or smart clothes as most people were wearing in the bar/restaurant. When I asked for a adapter plug, I was asked to sign a document to be charged 'when' we don't bring it back, not 'if'. I would give the benefit of the doubt due to translation. When we asked for the car keys back to go out to eat, the lady exclaimed "you're leaving?!" As though we were expected to eat in the restaurant there. However, once again I would give the benefit of the doubt. The lady that checked us out seemed polite and friendly.

Breakfast was included in the room rate which was a nice touch. There was a decent selection, however the 'hot' options (I had speck, scrambled eggs and mushrooms) were unfortunately all cold. The dining area where breakfast was served was well laid out and the restaurant itself looked quite nice.

Having said all of this, I would be tempted to stay here again due to the wonderful location if the rooms were refurbished.

Wonderfully grand hotel in an amazing setting - the rooms have a lovely old world charm and the interior of the hotel has kept its historic feel with lovely pieces of traditional furniture despite being reopened in 1984 - this hotel could easily transport you back to an earlier and gentler time. The location is spectacular sitting next to the Giessbach Falls and overseeing Lake Brienz. The restaurant serves up a high-end quality menu with, if you are lucky, a wonderful view of the falls. The staff throughout couldn't have been more helpful - especially Mr Kohnle (apologies if spelt incorrectly) from the terrace cafe, through to dinner and breakfast. We will definitely return for a longer stay and an opportunity to use the funicular railway, swim in the natural pool and explore the lake and area.

Amazing hotel. Unreal view of the waterfall and lake. Calm and peaceful atmosphere in 19th century vibes.

We’ve stayed as a family of 4 (with 2 kids under 6) more than 2 nights here. We booked directly with the hotel and hence benefited the most.
Our experience:
1. Child and Baby beds were already in place without explicit request. It made a great first impression that they acted proactively. Throughout our stay, they showed how much they cared about their tiny guests.
2. Dedicated staff. I’ve personally seen staff in different ranks- be it the Director himself, the Floor Manager, Restaurant staff or the Giessbach Bahnleiter doing their part exceptionally well with a lot of personal concern for their guests.
3. Exceptional Breakfast and Restaurant Kitchen. Loved the 4 Gang Menu. Kid friendly options. Nothing to complain about the portions.

What could be better:
Reception could be of better help in giving out Information to guests. There was hardly any conversation exchange in my observation.

Tips:
1. In my opinion, the rooms with Brienzerseeblick have a lot to offer during early Spring, in comparison to Waldblick and Cascade.
2. If you don’t understand and appreciate the charm of Jugendstil and the calmitude of Nature parks and Natural pools, do not come here.
3. This place does justice to the prices that you pay. It is an expensive but a rewarding experience.
4. A trip in Spring means less boat rides and no Brienzer Rothorn.

In a nutshell - This is more of a Traveler’s Haven than a Tourist Destination.

Transports you into the world of Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) in a similar way the series "Westworld" takes you into the west! Dress accordingly, look the part and take it all in! It's an experience of a lifetime!

Stayed for 2 nights. It’s a quiet hotel. If u like history u will love this place. Good for day trip. Got a forest room so it’s facing foot path and you can say hi to the hikers. If you love Korean drama it’s 1 of the site they shoot crash landing onto you.

This was our second visit to Giessbach, and once again it didn't disappoint. Everything about the hotel is impressive, it has stunning views of Lake Brienz and Giessbach falls and is surrounded by great hikes and days out. The room itself was spacious and had plenty of storage, a large bathroom and a big bed... and of course a fantastic view of the waterfall.
The breakfast buffet served is fantastic and has something for everyone's taste and the coffee is good. We ate a couple of times in the bar and the food was consistently tasty and fresh, and the drinks that we had were great.
The bar and waiting staff were really friendly and attentive however we found that this year the reception staff didn't seem as accommodating as last year, for example we were never asked how our stay was when checking out. Doesn't bother me at all but just thought this would be a fairly basic thing to ask. Would definitely return again though!
