Dear Dr. Schmidt,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude and deep appreciation for the surgery you performed recently. I am truly thankful for all your efforts and advice.

From the very beginning, I was impressed by your warm and caring approach. Your ability to listen attentively, help me understand complex issues, not only medical but also other organizational matters, and provide guidance on the best course of action was remarkable. Your support throughout the entire process was palpable and meant a great deal to me.

Your professionalism and experience as a doctor were evident at every stage. The thorough examination and successful surgery resulted in an outcome for which I am immensely grateful. You are a highly skilled doctor and a wonderful person.
I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of your entire team, especially Alina, who was always friendly and willing to answer all my questions and concerns before and after the surgery.

Once again, thank you for your professional treatment, kindness, and expertise.

With sincere gratitude,
Alexander Podkopay

I can’t say enough about the excellent, top-notch professional care I received from Prof. med. Jan Schmidt, along with his assistant Dr. Olga Meier, when I had to have colon and liver surgery in April of 2021. I am a 62-year-old male, and I was referred to Prof. Schmidt in March 2021 by my oncologist, Dr. Lucas Widmer, after 3 months of chemotherapy for colon cancer which had spread to my liver. It was a very serious situation, but the chemotherapy was very effective, and the next step in the treatment process was surgery. From the first consultation, until the day I was discharged from the hospital, under Prof. Schmidt’s care, I knew I was in the best hands possible. Throughout the process, Prof. Schmidt proved to be warm and caring, patient, he had a good sense of humor, and he exuded confidence and competence. His office staff were also friendly, professional and responsive. The day before my surgery, an anesthesiologist came in to talk to me about the procedure. She said “You’re a very lucky guy! Prof. Schmidt is a famous surgeon. He’s the only surgeon I would ever consider for surgery for myself. You’re in great hands!” Mine was major surgery that was actually 2 operations in one: removal of a section of the colon and surgery of the liver. I spent 12 days of recovery in the hospital, and Prof. Schmidt and/or his assistant surgeon, Dr. Olga Meier came to check on me every day, update me on my status, and answer any questions I had. The surgery was a great success, and I had no complications. I also had no significant pain or discomfort. It’s been three and a half months now since my surgery, and I have made a rapid and successful recovery so far, that I attribute for the most part to the excellent surgical skills, competence and experience of Prof. Schmidt. I have been declared “tumor-free”, and Dr. Schmidt no doubt helped to save my life, and to give me a second chance. I would like to take this opportunity thank Prof. Schmidt and his staff from my heart for what they’ve done for me, and to give them my highest possible recommendation. My best regards, Steven Loft

I have no words to thank Professor Jan Schmidt..

I was suffering from chronic pancreatitis for 5 years with different types of procedures and interventions done without success.

Prof Schimidt immediately found that I had “Sump Syndrome” and performed a very delicate procedure to resolve the issue.

The surgery was done in 2015 and I have had no pancreas attack since then. I’m very healthy with all labs results showing liver and pancreas function completely perfect since.

I got married after the surgery and today have a 2 years old healthy and happy son.

I thank God for Prof Schmidts life, may many be blessed through his life.

God bless you for your miracle hands and all you’ve done for us.

Prof. Dr. med. Jan Schmidt saved my life!

He is a brilliant and skilled surgeon, with remarkable expertise. You could not ask for a better man.

Prof. Schmidt had to remove the tail half of my pancreas in order to extract a malignant tumor from it and prevent any metastasis. Before the operation, Prof. Schmidt explained to my wife and me, in great detail, exactly what the problem was and what the operation would entail.

Prof. Schmidt was also very attentive in his follow-up while I was in the hospital. He personally checked on my post-op condition EVERY DAY, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day (second Christmas holiday), New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, as well as the day after New Year's Day, which is also a public holiday in Zürich. He was ALWAYS there, making sure my recovery was going well.

In addition, Prof. Schmidt has a very pleasant manner and a good sense or humor, which greatly helped put my mind at ease, before having to undergo such a difficult operation for a life-threatening illness.

For any operation that is within his purview, I can wholeheartedly recommend Prof. Dr. med. Jan Schmidt, without any reservation whatsoever. He is an expert, an outstanding doctor.

Writing a review about Jan Schmidt is like starting for a journey during which you move back and forth between his personal and professional capabilities.
My journey started in 2012: a chronical pancreatitis diagnosis ended up in 2016 as a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor whose spread was compromising the vascular system as well.
The local tumor board concluded that a total pancreatectomy (Whipple) was required in addition to rebuild part of the compromised vascular system.
Considering the complexity of this operation, the surgeon expressed his view: the only person he would trust for this endeavor was Jan with whom he had had the chance to collaborate.
I promptly found myself catapulted in Jan’s office in Zurich. I was instantly impressed by his openness, honesty and clarity in explaining the issue, proposed solution, risks and consequences. What he explained answered all of my questions. Blind trust was established and I felt not to be alone on the steep road ahead.
My only goal was to go through as soon as possible and the proposed date looked too far to me. The reason of postponing gave me an insight about Jan’s care capabilities: he wants to personally follow-up his patients after complex surgery. As he had planned to attend a congress in the comings days this would have not been possible. We left each other with a “see you”. Some days later the good news: no congress anymore. I got the priority lane, direction hospital.
All the hospital personnel I have met during my stay kept repeating how lucky I was to be in the hands of Jan: I knew it.
The operation went very well. My surgeon, who assisted the operation, told me that other surgeons would have required at least 2-3 hours longer than Jan to complete the challenging task.
While I was in intensive care Jan took his time to explain to my girlfriend what he did during the operation: he draw a picture by hand showing exactly what had been achieved.
I started recovering very quickly. I felt well. Jan cared about me a lot during the post-op phase: he showed an excellent degree of empathy and good sense of humor.
After few days my temperature was suddenly high and some of the blood test results were not as expected. We had decided to preserve my spleen but the exercise did not go as expected. Jan showed up in my room and asked how I was feeling: “not so well” was my answer. With great care and touch Jan told me “we have to operate again”. I had the impression the world was falling on my shoulders but there were no options to choose from.
The second operation was another success and Jan decision to re-operate was the right one: my stomach was getting compromised. Recovery was prompt and, after 3 and a half weeks in total, I was finally discharged ready for rehab and for home, being declared tumor-free.
In 2020 during a regular check, two small metastasis were detected in a very sensible position, quite complex to reach. The recommendation of the local tumor board was again surgical removal.
I had zero doubts about who to entrust for this tricky next step: Jan. Once contacted his comment was “complex but feasible”. Considering our mutual trust we decided to skip further preliminary steps and to meet directly in the hospital the day before surgery where he explained the process, risks and complexity during a 15 minutes face to face. The day after the operation successfully took place and I was discharged after one week.
I am 58 years old and I love life. Life is great and plenty of nice and less nice things. Health is of utmost importance and getting ill can be a devastating experience.
The best and only hope in this case is to stumble upon dependable human beings. Feeling in good hands and blindly trusting a person and his team is a great relief and of utmost importance as you can focus on what really count: yourself, your cure and your future.
I am a lucky person as this happened to me by meeting Jan (and his team) to whom I will always be grateful. I can only recommend him.
Thank you Jan !

Prof. Dr. Med. Jan Schmidt is an extreme skilled surgeon and I can highly recommend him. I met him due to a malignant tumor in the colon with metastases and from the very beginning he impressed me and my husband for his knowledge, wiliness to find a solution and frankness. He explained us in an understandable manner every single step I had to go through (from the surgery and the post-surgery) as well as all the involved risks.

He was at our side and ready to use all his energy and knowhow to save my life. Prof. Dr. med. Schmidt was very dedicated, took very good care of me and he was at our disposal any time we needed him.

I would like to thank also his team and secretary office for their welcoming and pleasant manners which make my life easier during such a difficult time.

If it would be possible, I would give him 10 stars! Thank you Prof. Dr. med. Schmidt one more time for all you did for me.

It's been 4 months since I had my hernia surgery. I cannot express how pleased I am with the results. The result of the surgery, both the problem fixing and the visual aspect, is better than I would ever imagine. He was very patient listening to my concerns and repetitive questions, and explain the procedure very clearly. Prof. Dr. Jan Schmidt is the best surgeon you could ask for. I would give him 10 stars.
