Great place to learn about St. Gallen’s history in the fashion industry and view some unique timeless pieces that originated from here. Random but cool: They have very unique embroidered post cards.

Sadly when we visited the museum was still in the middle of renovations so we could only see a section with machinery and a small exhibition upstairs (which was still very interesting). Would like to return when it's fully open, building is beautiful. Also liked that the tickets are textile swatches, lovely idea.

It felt like my most underwhelming museum experience: the permanent exhibition is not available before May this year, so all that was available today were two quite interesting machines and a tiny, tiny bit of history about lace making. And a small quilts exhibition.
I guess if you're interested in the topics of the temporary exhibitions it's worth it to go when they're open. I was hoping to see part of one of the largest textile collections in Switzerland and was more interested in history. So I hope I will find the permanent exhibition worth it, once it's available.

Very interesting museum located 7min from the main train station. One does not always know that St. Gallen is famous for its textile history. The museum is not very large but very pleasant. The architecture is cool to see. The iron work of the staircase looked like lace which is also a specialty of St.Gallen. The temporary exhibit we got to see was about Women in power. It was an interesting topic that highlights our prejudices towards females and males. There are loom demonstrations as well but do check the timings. Furthermore if you get the chance to see the Textile library have a go at it. It think it would be fascinating to see. (Check the schedule). The lady at the reception was very friendly. Cool place to visit.

Very disappointed in today's visit. Very few exhibits and library was closed even though it was supposed to be open. I studied the web site ahead of time and expected much more.

The website is very misleading. Make sure you are aware of the exhibits they have. It’s interesting, but honestly not worth the money. The least they could do is offer a lower price for when they are changing exhibits. There was one very small exhibit, and one larger exhibit we went to. Both were very underwhelming.

Most disappointing museum I've ever been to.

Answer to response from the owner:
Yes, of course. I expected to see garments and some history about the (Swiss) textile industry, an evolution or why Switzerland/St.Gallen was important for the textile industry. Why did I expect that? That's what I understood from searching on Google/your website/blog articles before my visit and what was shown in the brochure I got at the entrance of the museum.

What I did not like:
There was not a single garment on display. There were only 3 exhibition halls and on top of that the same types of textiles were shown in each hall (only 5). Of course, there were several types of textiles on display on the big patchwork quilt, but there was no explanation. What I especially did not like is that the temporary Japan exhibition was not an addition, but rather the only thing on display, not a Swiss textile to be found.

An ideal textile museum in my opinion, shows the visitor different kinds of textile techniques and lets the visitor experience them (e.g. feel them), shows what different thicknesses of the textiles mean, shows what the advantages and disadvantages are for each kind in the making of the textile itself, the making of the final product, the use of it (e.g. some fabrics are better for carpet, others for clothes) and the recycling/sustainability and the sustainability choices one can make. Or it can start with a special garment and go back in (Swiss) history.

I hope this can help you in your future work.

Unfortunately I didn't see the exhibitions shown in the review and only spent less than 1 hour finishing the visit. The ticket was interesting (a piece of fabric) with a cost of CHF 12.
