A few months back, my husband and I decided to relocate from Switzerland (Neuchâtel) to Boston, USA, and we contacted a few European companies to do our move. We had few different options, but the one that caught our eye the most was Swiss Moving Services; very responsive with questions, and local to Switzerland (where we were moving from), which made it easier. Worst decision we took! And, let me be specific, they WEREN’T the cheapest -at all -.
I believe the person who had been our contact until then went on vacation. So, we had somebody else replace him. Fluent communication stopped at the moment they picked up our things, which made us very nervous. All the information we had after this, was after us requesting it (and following up).
Our container was stuck in their warehouse for more than 5 weeks. When flagged to them that our expectations, as in our quote, was that our container would take 6 to 8 weeks to be delivered -and it was still in Switzerland! - they told us, badly, that was written in their quote was “from their warehouse”. Yeah, maybe, but nobody mentioned us that, that they would stay the same amount of time in their warehouse. How would we know!?
It wasn’t stated in our quote either that nobody would tell us where our things were, that we would need to beg for information. That when we would send an email stating that we weren’t happy with their service, they’d just ignore it.
Our stuff shipped from Europe 6 weeks after they picked it up. 6 weeks our stuff was just in warehouse 2 hours away our home in Europe. We FINALLY received our things yesterday. It took them 77 days to deliver our things. That makes it 2 MONTH AND A HALF. If you were wondering if our expectations were wrong: In their website is clearly written that Europe to North America is 6-8 weeks – door to door-. If they had told us initially that I would take that long, that would have been fine. We could have planned for it (take some more winter clothes and warmer jackets, some extra kitchen utilities, etc). But they never did. And we are fully aware that legally they are protected (yes, it was written in the contract that it was 5 weeks since their warehouse), but who would believe that is economically efficient - for them - to keep it 5 weeks there? But some customer-care wouldn’t have hurt.
Besides all of this, what bothered me the most wasn’t their incompetence. It was the way they treated us from the moment our things were picked up. At certain point, they even told my husband that I “didn’t understand what how international moves work”. This is my third international move. But, if I was a logistics expert, I wouldn’t have worked with them. That’s for sure! And, basically, you do NOT speak badly of your customers (to their partners!)
