Scanning system was frustrating to use and did not allow easy and fluid browsing. The collections felt more eclectic than themed. Few things stood out as particularly interesting, and many that did had such simple descriptions that i was not enthralled.

The Historical Museum of the Canton of Lucerne is located on the Reuss River in the former armory. You are greeted very nicely and you are told how best to tour the museum. At the reception you get a small Ipad and then you walk through the museum and scan the yellow codes that are distributed everywhere. In addition, there are green codes that belong to an audio guide tour through the history of the museum. Highly recommended for children

A very bizarre museum experience indeed. I didn’t take any photos but basically it’s just lots of vintage things (from wheelchairs to armor to clothes to arm bands to swords to stones to fish hooks) placed haphazardly in grilled up cabinets that stack on top of each other. There’s an iPad that u can scan each barcode to get some description but the descriptions are really not informative at all.

I went wanting to learn about history (since it’s called history museum) and literally
Learnt nothing except that there was a war depicted in a painting in 1800s ???????? honestly, just go to another museum.

This is more of a curiosity cabinet than a museum. No overarching narrative, just stuff stuffed into ugly cabinets. And who had the bright idea to replace ALL text by barcodes that you have to scan with an iPad? This is cumbersome, and takes longer than reading, especially if what you get when you finally align the camera with the barcode just right is: "sword, 14th century" .
Do yourself a favor and spend your time elsewhere.

I was very pleasantly surprised by selection in this museum, with a few very unique pieces I have not seen anywhere else. They're a little tucked away, but at the back on the top floor there's a stunning selection of astonishingly well preserved Neolithic fabrics, rope and tools, which I have never seen in such close proximity before, if at all. There is an enormous range of items, otherwise. Some is the standard for small museum but there are some very interesting unique pieces such as heraldic shields and a extravagant sled. The museum provides a tablet, that can be used to scan items and recieve information on them - in English and hopefully a lot of other languages too! Overall, I was very impressed and would say it is definitely worth the entrance fee!!

Popped in here for a bit of a look see (got a discount using the Lucerne visitor card), and was pleasantly surprised by the eclectic historical range of items here, from everyday (irons? Food blenders?) to the clothing series going back in time - whalebone corsets - to toys and amusements, war items (all ages), and back into antiquity with old coins and jewellery pieces. I could’ve spent ages here, but a bit time limited. Great system with the tablet style scanner, where I scanned a barcode next to an item, and the information came up in English for me. Would recommend

We absolutely loved the museum. Lots of colorful and unique paintings, vitrage windows and statuettes. 10/10 would recommend if you happen to be around!

If you took a yard sale or flea market, put the contents in a building, and called it a museum…you’d basically have this place. Worse is that nothing is labeled at all, except for a bar code that you scan on a tablet to get more info. There are thousands of small items, I’m not going to spend hours scanning each one just to find out what it is and if I want to know more.
If this wasn’t included with the Swiss pass I would have demanded a refund. It’s a complete waste of time.
