Absolutely horrible. Waiting time is not only unclear and not communicated, but is also Very. Very. Very. Long.
If I have to ask 3 people what my estimated waiting time is after THREE hours of waiting and still not getting a clear answer yeah you have a problem.

To management check your working staff to patient ratio & double check time it takes to complete a task efficiently because from my second ER experience here and from the majority of comments below there is clearly a problem and it has not been addressed nor resolved. Do better.

Once again in this awful building. 2 people almost dead, and the 3 of us are waiting for 3+ hours. You should be ashamed of yourselves honestly. How dare you calling yourselves emergency???

This place is a nightmare. I always come here complaining because you always stay here at least 4 ou 5 hours to get a simple antibiotic for flu. It's ridiculous the disorganization. It's not clear where the waiting room is, not clear what is the next step, you see a lot of people passing by and not doing anything. It's a disaster. Only come here in case of serious problem. It's very bad here.

By far my worst patient experience in Switzerland. The emergency doctors want to get rid of patients to save cost, the nurses want to get rid of patients to save beds/cost and some also are not even trained nurses - they have no idea of taking care of a human beings but you depend on them. The people who drive you around are rude and insensitive to patients (no one controls them between distinations - and physiotherapy is basically someone giving you a piece of badly printed instruction paper and asks you to have fun exercising. Poor coordination throughout. A true disaster and the experience feels like in a under developed country! Efficiency and empathy urgently needed!

Extremely disappointed as we are right now into our 7th hour of wait at ER! People generally come to ER in severe discomfort or pain, already stressed or traumatized and do not need 7 hours of waiting. It’s an outrage in a country like Switzerland. Staff just told me to write to the management to complain and ask for more doctors to be employed! It simply leaves one speechless!

The emergency room at the CHUV hospital is an utter joke. With no sense of any emergency, people have to wait a minimum of four hours before even being accepted into the emergency room. I sat with a broken leg in the waiting room for 7 hours before being admitted and waited another 2 hours for a doctor (who was very kind) to spend 5 minutes with me explaining my x-ray, and that was only after I got into a wheelchair and said I was leaving (at almost 2AM). The organisation and management is just atrocious.

The emergency room is filled with people who should actually be placed in the relevant wards of the hospital. Instead, they spend all day and/or all night in the emergency room, holding the bed of someone who could be treated in half an hour and leave again to let the next person in. It's insane that people with head injuries, broken bones and severe pain are made to wait as long as they are. Emergencies require speedy attention but there is no sense of urgency whatsoever at the CHUV. How can this be possible at the "best" hospital in Switzerland?

I find it unacceptable that in the main university hospital in the city of Lausanne, there are secretaries who do not (or refuse to) speak English. I called CHUV in order to book an appointment, and when I asked the secretary (in French) if she spoke English, she sarcastically replied "Non, je ne parle pas anglais, je parle français". I ended up booking an appointment with a private doctor instead, because I could not sufficiently communicate with her. Unacceptable!
