This is where you go to deal with your car, motorcycle or boat or all of the above. They also keep track of your driver's license, number plates, boat permit and alike. And you take all your theoretical exams related to vehicles and have your vehicle inspected here at the SAN. As for boats, the inspector will come to the harbor where you keep it unless it's stored on a trailer. Lines are long unless you come in the early morning, the SAN is open from shortly after 7 a.m. Avoid lunch hours.

Edit 6 years after: They have changed completely. People are nice, professional, helpful and understanding. What a turnaround. Still leaving the below article for the record to showcase how things can sometimes change for the better.

I love it... calling at 3:15pm on Friday pm to hear an answering machine say that they will close at 4:15pm that same friday and I can call the week after. How professional :)

As an American living in Switzerland, I have to say that this was the quickest experience I have EVER had at a motor vehicle office. In and out in 15 minutes. All of the MVD offices in the United States should take notice.

No complaints about this place. They are certainly fast and efficient here. The young woman who assisted me (forgot her name already…window I) was very friendly. She even engaged my three year old son in conversation.
