Petit Palais de Geneve is quite an enigma. The building itself in the style of Second Empire, was constructed by the local architect, Samuel Darier, in 1862. Originally there were two floors only, but in 1967 a new owner, Oscar Ghez (1905-1998), extended the building adding extra floors, in total 6 with the three being the lower ground ones. During the excavations a piece of the ancient wall of the Old Town was discovered. In 1968 a museum was opened in the building, housing Oscar Ghez's fine collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings of modern art. Major trends from 1870 to 1930 are represented here by the masters such as Mane-Katz, Degas, Utrillo, and Cezanne with a particular emphasis on the Impressionist painters of the School of Paris. The museum had been opened to public until 1998, the year of the death of Oscar Ghez. The collection together with the house were inherited by Oscar's son, Claude Ghez, a professor in neuroscience, who lives and works in New York, USA. Claude did not seem to have an interest in keeping the museum open and sharing the collection with the public, so it became a closed private collection that has not been exhibited in full for 20 years. Two years ago, the Mayor of the city tried to open a dialogue with the heir of Oscar Ghez de Castelnuovo in terms how the city of Geneva can help to reopen the museum, but Claude has not yet give any definite answer to this. Rumours go around that he wants to sell it. Meanwhile Genevois wonder of the true reason of why the collection is not accessible to public. They call the museum - une énigme genevoise. Even though the museum is closed, it is worth coming to admire the architecture of the building itself as well as walk in les Tranchees district of 19th century mansions. Quite a marvel, actually.

Je suis venue sur les conseils d'une proche pour faire un soin visage. Je dirai tout simplement un grand merci à Nadège, une professionnelle aux doigts de fée ! + un massage exceptionnel ! Je recommande les yeux fermés
