Have been to different art museums in switzerland but I daresay this could be the best one. We love a very playful exhibition "draw your own conclusion" and it made our tour very fun and lively. The museum is also free (surprisingly) with "pay as you wish" concept. Must visit if you are in Geneva, even if you are not so into Art.

Unfortunately, I have mixed feelings about this museum.

The fact it’s free to enter is fantastic, but there were no apparent explanations of the pieces so we were unable to understand their meaning. It would have been amazing to get a bit of background at least in order for us to make the most of our visit.

There were still some wonderful things to see though and we don’t regret visiting and exploring.

Excellent collection of historical items and art. Very well displayed and a lot to see. Allow a couple of hours at least if you want to see everything. Entrance is free but you are encouraged to offer a voluntary donation. Bags must be put in lockers and you'll need a 1 Euro/CHF coin for this. If you don't speak French you'll need a smartphone to translate the exhibit descriptions.

this museum has a wonderful collection of Renaissance and baroque art. I especially enjoyed the works they had from Alexandre Calame, Carlos Schwabe, and the panels that Jean Dunand did for the Normandie. I'd have given this museum five stars if not for the following:
- there are a few, if not, no English translations at all for the exhibitions. You're pretty much left to your own devices and you just have to google the pieces
- except for the main collection on the top floor, the temporary exhibitions and ancient civilizations were confusing, difficult to navigate and poorly labelled. I mean, whoever said the Swiss were well organized... They were not talking about this museum!

Beautiful building of the museum. Interior is spacious and nice, staff there was friendly and the entrance is free or you can donate as much as you want.
But since we do not speak French and the descriptions were only in French we could not read anything. So that was a big disadvantage. Also I had to carry my bagpack which is the first time I heard about a rule like this and it was too hot inside.

A must see in Geneva! I loved the artefacts and the staff were helpful in explaining the items to us. I also loved the paintings and the outside courtyard. Great way to pass a rainy day in Geneva.

We visited on Tuesday, 27Dec2022. The time between 25Dec and 01Jan seems to be quite crowded everywhere in Paris.
Some parts were sold out or had very long lines. We did not buy tickets ahead of time.

Building and lighting are beautiful. At times it seemed like some of the animals were quite a bit smaller than in real life. But overall quite fun.

I visited this museum on a weekend, a couple of hours before it closed. It has adequate stuff to call it a museum and not sure if one would regret it if they missed the visit. Coming from London, it's hard not to compare and would class this one as average. The staff are nice and I think it doesn't help visiting when it's very hot as there's no air conditioning. Conclusively, this may be ideal for history students otherwise if you're generally thinking you have to visit for the fun of it, it's a miss.
