After 2 hours and 20 mins hikes from my village, I absolutely needed some coffee and some calories to fuel my hikes back home, stumble upon this beautiful and historical place, luckily it was open. I had a cup of coffee and a piece of their delicious cake. I hike back home with a happy belly????

MAISON DU BLE ET DU PAIN offered us an excellent breakfast with a WOW factor! The staff are friendly and very efficient. The atmosphere is wonderful. The smell of freshly baked bread and pies is exciting. It is not just a fresh eyes pleasing and mouthwatering breakfast they serve. Maison Du Ble Et Du Pain is a breakfast experience that must be enjoyed at every opportunity. Highly recommended!

Every time I go there the service is a bit worse. Today they hit an all time low. 10 minutes wait to be seated; for no reason as there were free tables and nobody in front of me. I asked to be seated next to the bakery so that my 3 years old could watch the staff making bread but the lady refused claiming the table was reserved; yet when I left 1 hour later the table was still unoccupied. After another 10 minutes wait finally someone came to take my order. While I was ordering the waitress answered the phone (so rude) and just left, without taking the order. Finally I was able to order a brunch with another waitress. The brunch includes two warm beverages so I asked for a cappuccino and a glass of warm milk. For some weird reason I had to pay for the milk separately. When I asked why they told me it was because my son drank it and not me.

I'm reviewing the cafe/bakery part, not the museum. This is a training location for girls and boys apprenticing as waiters and bakers, so I'm cutting them some slack, but still, there are similar institutions in the region that provide good quality service with people in training through the excellence of their organization. Not so the Maison du Blé et du Pain, their waiters are consistently bored and unenthusiastic, their cashiers confused. The quality of the bread is fine, but the selection of cakes is always the same, at least since I've been visiting: 8 years. This selection is also limited to roughly 5 kinds of basic
cake, not all of them available every day (I think the only one always produced in quantity is the sablé à la crème). For such a large and almost iconic bakery it is frankly a shame. The internal decor is well maintained, but it must date from the eighties or early nineties and it really shows. Finally, and this is the perfect example of poor, disinterested management that is the root of this location's problems: how many years do you need to do something about the unavoidable, constant 10 or more people queueing amid the tables to buy their Saturday morning bread from 9 to 10am? Maybe an extra cashier? Maybe at least changing the layout so that there's more space for the queue and not in the same area as the tables? Such potential, ruined by a management that must have fallen asleep 20 years ago and is still sleeping under some table.

Brunch ok bit staff was slow and really disorganized.
Besides the bread and pastries that are made in house, the other products are from Migros but with a restaurant price tag. Outside the coffee nothing is hot, essentially younger a cold cuts platter, a cheese one, butter and yogurts and two tiny jam pots.
One last note the food ithat is brought at your table is certainly enough for a reasonable appetite, hungry NFL linebackers stay away from the place or plan a visit elsewhere afterwards.

The Brunch on Sunday was ok, breads they make them self, cheese, jam, butter, dry meat (do not expect to have something to drink as you'll have to pay more)... they bring everything to you to share and all you can eat... but something's wrong as you do not want to disturb waiters so you're not asking more (and they will not ask you and do not come back to you all the time)... the brunch is good but it's like when I eat at home on Sunday (it's so easy, it's standard bread - no special bread at all - and jam in a very small and tiny portion, yes I know it's all I can eat but it's wrong !!!!!!!!!!)... so nothing extraordinary (really not !). for 5CHF more expensive (yes believe me 5CHF more !!)... go to The Lausanne Olympic Museum Brunch... you will see what is a real Swiss All You Can Eat Branch (I can't describe as you have almost everything possible to eat, yes... salmon, fresh oysters, wonderful 5 stars dishes etc etc etc etc etc !!!! ). You will be amazed and you will never come back again to this Maison du blé et du pain... and their museum : it's small and not really interesting... (horribly boring !). I was really disappointed but as we were a great group eating there, we got a great time laughing together.
